Jonathan Fitchett DeVall, known fondly as Jon-Boy to those who knew him best, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, at the Robin Johnson House in Dallas, North Carolina, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 23, 1960, in Cookville, Putnam County, Tennessee, Jonathan lived a life marked by dedication, skill, and an unwavering love for those around him.
A true craftsman, Jonathan spent much of his life honing his talents as a plumber and carpenter, mastering an array of skills that made him capable of tackling any challenge. Yet, it was not just his work that defined him but the warmth and generosity he offered his family and community. He took great joy in coaching soccer, baseball, and football, fostering teamwork and discipline, and was never happier. when he was cheering his USC Gamecock’s or Clover Football games. .
Jonathan’s greatest pride was his role as a father. He was, simply put, the best dad he could be. Cherished moments with his son Dillon and daughter Nicole often revolved around playing frisbee, fishing and playing sports activities that filled their days with laughter and love. He also shared a deep affection for his pets—his cats Bobby and Shadow, and perhaps, most endearingly, their horse Fancy.
His family was the cornerstone of his life. For 27 years, he stood beside his beloved wife Joanne Hoogmoed DeVall, building a life grounded in partnership and care. He was also a devoted brother to Louis DeVall, II and his wife Vera; Nancy Watters and her husband Wayne; Ellen Hauser, and Lisa Helms. Jonathan’s family circle extended to his brother- and sister-in-law, Ronald Hoogmoed and Ruth, as well as Nancy Everhart and Terry, along with numerous nieces and nephews who carry forward his legacy in their hearts.
Jonathan was a steadfast supporter of all who knew him, offering encouragement and kindness without hesitation. His spirit of generosity, his willingness to lend a hand, and his robust support for family and friends alike left an enduring mark on their lives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Nancy Pursley DeVall, whose memory lived on in Jonathan’s heart and guided his path.
A visitation to honor Jonathan’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home and Cremation, located at 2916 Union Road, Gastonia, North Carolina. Those who wish to pay their respects are invited to gather and share memories of a man whose life was a testament to love, hard work, and devotion.
Jonathan’s departure leaves a quiet void, yet his legacy of kindness, dedication, and the simple joy of being the best dad and husband lives on vividly in the hearts of his loved ones. His journey may have ended, but the impact of his life continues to inspire, comfort, and uplift those who were privileged to know him.
