Joseph Gerard Creighton

Joseph “Joe” Gerard Creighton, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on April 21, 2026, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, North Carolina. He was 80 years old. Born on March 19, 1946, in Potsdam, New York, Joe lived a life defined by service, dedication, and a deep commitment to those around him.

Joe proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era. His strong sense of duty extended far beyond his military service, as he devoted many years to the Union Road Volunteer Fire Department. A respected and active member, Joe also served on the Board of Trustees—one of his proudest accomplishments. His contributions reflected an unwavering passion for the safety and well-being of his community.

A devoted family man, Joe shared nearly 40 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Virginia “Jenny” Brack Creighton. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and lasting friendships. He is survived by his wife, Jenny; his son, Cody Creighton and his fiancée, Ashley Mason; his daughter, Shannon Letterman and her husband, Mike; his sister, Dorothy Restivo; and many cherished friends who will remember him with great affection.

Joe was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Gastonia, where he found strength, fellowship, and spiritual guidance throughout his life. He was deeply involved in the church’s ministries, where friends truly became family. Known for his servant’s heart, Joe found great joy in caring for others—particularly through visiting shut-ins and volunteering at Bread, a local food bank. His faith remained a cornerstone of his life and guided all that he did.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Joseph Creighton and Helen Elizabeth Creighton, and by his brother, John Creighton.

A visitation to honor Joe’s life will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 3001 York Highway, Gastonia. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 1:00 p.m., officiated by close friend and Pastor, Dr. Josh Glandon. Burial will take place at Westview Gardens Cemetery in Bessemer City, with military honors rendered by the Gaston County Honor Guard.

Joe’s legacy is one of service, compassion, and devotion—to his family, his faith, and his community. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
