Gastonia – Joseph Clemmer "Joe" Saunders, 88, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2022 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Gaston County, on November 18, 1933 to the late John Carson Saunders and Florence Clemmer Saunders. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Freida Black Saunders, a son Steve Saunders, daughter, Lisa S. Hardin and a daughter in law, Kathe Barr Saunders.
Joe worked in the Postal Service for over 38 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Joe was an avid golfer he worked and retired from the City of Gastonia Municipal and later worked at Catawba Creek for many years.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be greatly missed.
Survived by his sons, Jeff Saunders and Scott (Lynn) Saunders; grandchildren, Jacob (Jody) Barr, Brian Saunders, Andrew Saunders, Nicole Saunders, Shelby Saunders and Allison Phillips; brothers, Jim Saunders and Robert (Betty) Saunders; several nieces and nephews
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m., Friday, January 28,2022 at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home
Interment will be private at a later date
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605. Or the Gastonia Evening Lions Club
