Joyce Elmore Hogan

Joyce Elmore Hogan, 91, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2025 at her residence in Covenant Village.

She was born in Gaston County, North Carolina, on December 27, 1933 to the late James Edgar Jimison and Blanche Jimison Nance. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, and father of her children, Donald Lewis Elmore, Sr; son, Donald Lewis Elmore, II; second husband, Rev. E. Thomas Hogan; and her five siblings.

Joyce was a lifelong resident of Gaston County and graduate of Gastonia High School. She worked for Southern Bell and retired after 38 years of dedicated service. Joyce was proud to be a Telephone Pioneer. She was an avid reader and enjoyed solving jigsaw puzzles. She spent quality time with her family and friends. Joyce leaves many happy memories to be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Elmore Gillespie (Michael); daughter-in-law, Kim Elmore; grandchildren, Aaron Gillespie, Davis Gillespie, Clay Gillespie, Josh Elmore (Alyson), Emily Elmore, and Rob Elmore; three great-granddaughters; sister-in-law, Jayne Elmore Spargo; Step-children, Eric and Jennie Hogan; her dear friends, Barry and Tabatha Friday and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm on Friday April 25, 2025 prior to the 12:30 pm graveside service at Gaston Memorial Park with Pastor Tim Parker officiating.

Pallbearers will be Michael Gillespie, Aaron Gillespie, Davis Gillespie, Clay Gillespie, Josh Elmore, and Rob Elmore.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cancer Services of Gaston County.
