Juanita McCarthy Greene

Juanita McCarthy Greene, 92, passed away peacefully in Gastonia, North Carolina on April 5, 2026 with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Gaston County on January 10, 1934 to the late George and Hattie McCarthy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Ted Lyvonne Greene; son, Tim Greene; son-in-law, John Lawrence; and her ten siblings.

Juanita was a devoted member of First Assembly of God in Gastonia where she could always be found in the same pew every Sunday. She was a very loving and caring person who was known for her special cards she sent out every day to everyone she knew. The cards always had her signature $1 bill in them and many people have collected the cards and dollars over the years. Juanita would call her neighbors in the morning to make sure they were up and made it through the night. That was the kind of dedicated and caring woman she was and made her known to be everyone’s granny. She also was known for baking Christmas cakes and she enjoyed bird watching and listing to her windchimes. Most of all, she was family oriented and loved her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Beth Owens (Raymond), Sandra Weaver (Rob), and Karen Lawrence (Dwight), daughter-in-law, Kaye Greene; grandchildren, Matthew Greene, Ryan Greene, Natalie Henning, Emily Plemmons, Carson Weaver, and Annalyn Weaver; six great-grandchildren; special niece, Kathy McRee and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather for a graveside service at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Olney Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 251 Olney Church Road, Gastonia, North Carolina 28056. Pastor Dennis Boyce will officiate the service.

Pallbearers will be, Raymond Owens, Rob Weaver, Dwight Smith, David Masters, Mike Micik, and Carson Weaver.
