Gastonia - Karen Michelle Black, "Shelly" daughter of Gary and Renee Carpenter Brooks and stepfather, Marvin Brooks was born on November 19, 1974, in Gastonia, NC. She departed this life on June 26, 2021.
Shelly graduated from Hunter Huss High School in 1993. She studied EMS at Gaston College and graduated in 1999. She worked as a former paramedic at Stanley County EMS, Union EMS, and Atrium Health.
Shelly loved shopping and couponing. She was also very creative with arts and crafts. She enjoyed listening to gospel music from the Crabb Family. Shelly was very kind-hearted with a heart of gold.
Shelly married the love of her life, Anthony Black on April 28, 2016. Shelly and Anthony loved spending time with their grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Arthur and Louise Wilson and paternal grandparents, Harold and Lela Moore.
She leaves to cherish loving memories to her husband, Anthony Black, two sons: Justin and Nick Hudson and one daughter, Cailyn Campbell, two step-sons: Andrew and Evan Black, one goddaughter, Amanda Axe, five grandchildren: Ayden, Aubrey, and Ryan Hudson, Zion and Zekiel Black and a host of cousins, family, and friends including a special guardian, Linda Medlin, and best friends: Belinda Pope and Kathy Bardsley.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 3rd at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home, 2916 Union Road, Gastonia, NC with Dr. Rev. Robert L. Sanders officiating. Visitation for family and friends will immediately follow the service.
