Kathryn Greene Cheves

Kathryn Greene Cheves, born on August 1, 1953, in Cleveland County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, at the Stanley Total Living Center. Her life was characterized by her unwavering love for her family and dedication to her community.

Kathy, as she was affectionately known, served many wonderful years as vice president at the Girl Scout Council, where she made lasting friendships and impacted countless young lives. She later continued her commitment to service as a program coordinator at the Senior Center, demonstrating her passion for nurturing and guiding senior citizens of all ages.

She was a devoted mother to Avery and wife to her late husband, Robert “Bob” Marshall Cheves, with whom she shared over 30 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2017. Kathy found immense joy in the company of her family and adored her dog, Muffin, who brought her much companionship and happiness.

In addition to her daughter, Kathy is survived by her brother, Joe Greene, and his wife, Gail, along with their daughters, Joy, Kristi, and their families. She leaves behind many wonderful friends who will remember her warmth and vivacity.

Kathy's recent interests included watching the television series "The Golden Girls," indulging in various cooking shows, and tending to her garden, where she found peace and joy. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her daughter, Avery.

Kathy is predeceased by her parents, Flay Avery Greene and Sarah Lucille Grayson Greene, whose legacies she carried forward throughout her life.

The legacy of Kathryn Greene Cheves is one of love, service, and the profound impact that a devoted wife, mother, and friend can have on the lives of others. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who were lucky enough to know her.

A graveside service beside her beloved husband at Gaston Memorial Park will be in the fall of 2025.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to https://www.girlscoutsp2p.org/en/support-us/donate.html, in honor of Kathy.
