Charlotte – Kelton Elbert "Kelly" Pennington, II, 59, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2021, at his residence.

He was born in Russell, Kentucky on October 27, 1961, to Betty Jarrell Pennington and the late Kelton Elbert Pennington. In addition to his father, he is also preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Virginia Pennington, and step-father Charlie Powell.

Kelly had a bachelor's degree in Communications and Theatre from Morehead State University but ultimately used his artistic talent as a licensed Cosmetologist. Kelly was an excellent chef and enjoyed cooking for himself and others in his leisure time. He was a loving son, brother, and friend.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving mother, Betty Jarrell Pennington Powell; his sisters, Karen Smyser and husband John, Terri Strait and husband Randy; nephews and niece, Jason Smyser and wife Erika, Joseph Smyser, Eli Strait, and wife Christina, Jordan Strait Donavan and husband Nick; great-nephews and niece, Seth, Malcolm, Calvin, Samuel, Brayden, Keegan, Avery and Grayson, step-sisters Fran Corley and husband Paul, Shirley Mickle and husband Bobby, step-brother Roy Powell and wife Debbie, many aunts, uncles and cousins, and several wonderful friends.

Visitation for Family and Friends will be held from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will follow at 5:30 p.m., in the Chapel of Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home with Reverend Danielle Hammett officiating.
Interment will be in Russell, Kentucky beside his father.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethesda Methodist Church, 3714 South New Hope Road, Gastonia, NC 28056
