Larry Hayes Stevens

Larry Hayes Stevens, 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at his residence with his family by his side. 

He was born in Gaston County, North Carolina on May 20, 1944 and is the son of the late John Henry Stevens and Mamie Johnson Stevens and was also preceded in death by his siblings, Willa May, Mary, Rachel, Wilma, Grady, Max, John and James. And his daughter in law, Jessica Ray Stevens.

He was a member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church; where he was active in the children ministry and the Sunday School Bus Ministry over 9 years. Larry loved the Lord; he enjoyed reading and studying the Bible. He was also a movie buff, always buying the current DVDs. Larry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a loving family man, especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and his children. Larry retired from the City of Gastonia Waste Water department as an operator for over 27 years.

Larry is survived by his  wife of 55 years, Nancy Harwell Stevens; his children, Tammy Beal (Tommy), Jonathan “Johnny” Hayes Stevens (Maggie), Brian Heath Stevens; grandchildren, Christina Marko, Matthew Marko, Sarah Harbin (Jeff), Joshua (Mya), Sammy, Danny, Jonathan Jr, Jacob and Raylyn Stevens; great grandchildren whom he adored, Alex Marko, Piper Harbin, J.J. Stevens, Everly Stevens and Eliza Stevens; sisters, Juanita Peters, Elizabeth Richardson and Brenda Stevens; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 17^th at Sandy Plains Baptist Church.

A Celebration of Life service will follow at 3:30 p.m. with Pastor Chris Howell and Pastor Richard Brown officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Dean, Dwight Pruitt, Johnny Stevens, Sr., Joshua Stevens, Sammy Stevens and Danny Stevens.
