Born on July 12, 1942, in Graham County, North Carolina, Laura’s journey through life touched family, friends, and all who had the privilege to know her. She was a source of quiet strength and enduring compassion whose memory will be cherished forever.

Laura’s life was defined by her deep devotion to family. The cherished mother of Timothy Ballard, Kathy McJunkins, and Pamela Mauldin, she poured her heart into raising her children with generosity and warmth. Laura’s nurturing spirit extended into the next generation, where she was adored by her grandchildren—Wade Lawing, Michael Weaver, Christina Adams, Laura Bell, and Brandon Mauldin, and great grandchildren, Tristiney Adams, Rebecca Adams, Makayla Adams, Parris Mauldin, Laura Bell Mauldin, Josh Mauldin, Georgia Mauldin, Landon Weaver, Zachary Weaver, and also one great great granddaughter, Virginia Annette Orr. Her love of family was a guiding light, and the bonds she forged will continue to be a source of comfort and inspiration.

Laura was sustained throughout her lifetime by her siblings’ camaraderie and steadfast support. She is survived by her brothers James, Roger, David, and Larry Phillips, along with her beloved sisters, Sarah Garver and Lure Anderson. Each shared in Laura’s joys and sorrows, lending strength and laughter to her days.

Her story is interwoven with memories of those who have gone before her: her father Oliver Phillips, her mother Zonia Bell Anderson, her son, Charles Kenneth Ballard and her first husband, Charles Douglas Ballard, her second husband , Charles Mason, and her brother William Phillips. Their spirits remain a comforting presence, and the legacies they shared with Laura live on in her children, grandchildren, and extended family.

Gentle and caring, Laura made her home a sanctuary of comfort and kindness. Her love radiated through every moment spent with family and every story told, creating a tapestry of cherished memories. She met life’s challenges with quiet fortitude and always found room in her heart for those around her. Laura’s warmth and grace left an indelible mark—a legacy of devotion, humility, and love.

As family and friends gather to honor her life and legacy, Laura Evelyn Phillips Mason will be remembered for the kindness she spread, the steadfastness she embodied, and the love she bestowed. Though she has journeyed onward, her spirit will dwell in the hearts of all who knew her, and her memory will remain a blessing and a comfort for generations to come.

A Celebration of Life service will be 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, Jun e 31st at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home with Pastor David Chapman officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m., Wednesday with burial at Gaston Memorial Park.

Laura’s absence is deeply felt, but her memory will forever be celebrated within the bonds of the loving family she so tenderly fostered.
