Lillie Loretta Dover

Lillie Loretta Dover, a devoted military wife, beloved mother, adored grandmother, and cherished great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at the home of her daughter, Traci Burris, in Gastonia.

Born on June 28, 1957, Loretta lived a life defined by unwavering love and commitment to her family. She nurtured her role as a homemaker with grace and dedication, wholeheartedly supporting her husband Roy "Dugan" Dover throughout his military career. Her proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the center of her universe. Loretta carried an infectious sense of humor and a zest for life, often bringing joy and laughter to those around her. She enjoyed cutting up and being funny, finding delight in simple pleasures such as watching television.

Loretta was a member of Davis Memorial Baptist Church, where she found community and shared her faith. She is remembered not only for her warmth and kindness but also for her unwavering support of her loved ones.

Her family includes her son, Jason Thompson and wife Chasity of Shelby; her daughter, Traci Burris and husband Adrian of Gastonia; her wonderful grandchildren, Javeas, Alex, Macey, Taylor, AJ, Jonathan, and Ava; and her great-grandchildren, Coltyn, Emma, Bentley, Beckham, and Kinsley. She is survived by her sisters, Jenny Hibberts and Linda Manning.

Loretta is preceded in death by her husband, Roy "Dugan" Dover; her parents, Willie Palmer Thompson and Jack Thompson and other parent, Julian Randy Manning; and her siblings, Ezra Thompson, Steve Thompson, and Edna Wilson.

A visitation in her honor will take place on Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home located at 2916 Union Road, Gastonia, NC. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 PM at the same location with Pastor Keith Kellogg. Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park with the releasing of the doves

Loretta's legacy of love and laughter will forever be cherished by her family, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
