Gastonia – Dr. Little Jimmie Barnes, 92, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Bushnell, Florida on October 7, 1929, to the late Mamie Lucille Pollard and Nathaniel Otto Barnes.

Dr. Barnes was a veteran of the US Navy and was a faithful member of First Assembly of God. Dr. Barnes was a retired minister who served various congregations over the last 60 years. Dr. Barnes and Mrs. Barnes served as past representatives in the Southeast District office at Foursquare Gospel. They were also directors and managed Camp Courtney, Hendersonville, NC. They served several churches throughout North Carolina including Indian Trail, Concord, Riverwood, and Gastonia. Later making First Assembly of God their home church. Dr. Barnes was the serving minister at Gastonia Foursquare while they were building their new Sanctuary.

Even after retiring, he continued to spread the Gospel to everyone around him and he loved his Sunday School class. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with people. Dr. Barnes was the most loving husband, the best daddy, PawPaw, and PaPa that will be forever missed.

Left to cherish his memories include his loving wife of 72 years, Margie Currie Barnes; children, Little Jimmie Barnes, Jr. (Cyn-dee); Joy Fox (Jack), Kathie Branton (Vic), Rita Geary (Rick); grandchildren, Michelle Sherman (Dane), Little Jimmie Barnes, III (Robin), Kimberly Centofante, Kelley Johnson, Katie McQuestion (Stacey), Suzanne Mullally (Patrick), Michael Branton, great-grandchildren, Taylor Carroll (Tim), Haley Hulsey (Matt), Camryn Pearson, Tyler Johnson, Corey Johnson, Dylan Johnson, Caleb VanAust, Chad Centofante Sarah Centofante, Joshua Mullally, Trinity Mullally, Gracelynn-Joy Mullally, Christopher Barnes, Ian Barnes, Jenica Sherman;
and great-great-granddaughter, Blakely Joy Carroll.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 5, 2022, from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at First Assembly of God, 777 South Myrtle School Road, Gastonia, NC with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 3:00 p.m., with Rev. Dennis Boyce, Rev. Lamar Creel and Rev. Carl Tatum, Rev. Jeff Burris and Rev. Little Jimmie Barnes, III officiating with Military Honors. Inurnment will be private.
