Luz Maria Colon

Gastonia – Luz Maria Colon, 77, passed away on June 12, 2022 at Belaire Healthcare Center with her loving family by her side.  

Luz was born in Guayama, Puerto Rico on January 9, 1945 to the late Santos Colon and Rosa Laboy. In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her younger brother, Ramon Amaro.

Luz loved going for walks, dancing, eating vanilla ice cream and peppermint candy, roses, the color pink, and horses. She was a devout woman that prayed morning and night and she was a faithful church goer. At the end of her phone calls she never liked saying “goodbye” but rather she would always say “see you later” and “remember to lock your doors and windows”

Left to cherish her memory is her daughters Elsie Diaz, Marilyn Flores Ranis and husband Steve, Charo Colon, and Maria Luisa Rodriguez; sister, Carmen I. Colon Rosa, and many other loving sisters and brothers; grandchildren, Robert Rodriguez Jr., his wife Klarissa, and their baby Bloom, Samantha Ranis,  Avarista Ranis, Ezequiel Romo, Anthony Romo and his wife Ozmara, and their children Abigail and Luna. Monikah Gates, Korina Gates Mann and her husband Cobi, and their daughter Lucy Mann, Nycholas Diaz, Noah Rodriguez and his son Noah Jr.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. EST on Wednesday June 15, 2022 at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home with a Memorial Service to follow at 5:00 p.m. EST in the Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. John Strain officiating. The memorial service will be live streamed for those who cannot attend in person.

There will be a Funeral Mass on Wednesday June 22. 2022 at 12:00 p.m. at St Aloysius Parish, 2300 W. LeMoyne Street, Chicago, IL, 60622.
