Mabel Virginia Russell

Mabel Virginia Russell, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, at the home of her son Greg, surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 22, 1929, in Gaston County, North Carolina, Mabel lived a full life marked by devotion to her family and her community.

Mabel was a beloved member of Maylo United Methodist Church since 1953, where she faithfully served in the Senior's In Action group and took pride as a charter member of the Ruth Class Sunday School. Her unwavering faith and commitment to her church were cornerstones of her life, reflecting the deep kindness and strength she offered to those around her.

Above all, Mabel treasured spending time with her family, which she considered her proudest accomplishment. Her love and care shaped the lives of many, and her legacy will be lovingly carried forward by her sons Rick Russell and Greg Russell and his wife Renee. She was also a devoted grandmother to Cole (Ashley), Kyle (Sallie), Cameron, Keely (Jesse Rayfield), Devin (Tiffany), Krysta, and Josh Alexander (Heather), great grandchildren, Ashton, Holly, Heidi, Davis, Alex, Olivia, Aurelia, Raelynn, Jace,and Eason, Finn. all of whom brought her immense joy. Mabel's family circle was further enriched .

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, Paul B. Clark and Reba Nancy Morgan Clark Wilson, her husband of 55 years, Garf Richard Russell, Jr., son Scott L. Russell, and sisters Sally Masters, Ruby King, and Polly Lewis. Their memories live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A visitation will be held at Maylo United Methodist Church, located at 1900 Spencer Mountain Rd, Gastonia, NC, on May 15, 2026, from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life service at the same location from 1:00 PM. The family welcomes all who wish to honor Mabel's remarkable life and legacy to attend. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park, Singing Tower section beside her beloved husband, Garf. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Mabel’s passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt, yet her spirit endures in the countless lives she touched with her warmth, grace, and enduring love. Her memory remains a guiding light for her family and friends, a testament to a life beautifully lived.
