Marcia Withers Hovis

Marcia Withers Hovis, a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away suddenly at her residence on  Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at the age of 71. Born in Gaston County, NC, on November 12, 1953, she was a graduate of Dallas High School. For over 23 years, Marcia dedicated herself to her career in the family business, Withers Food Mart, where her commitment to service and her warm spirit touched the lives of many.

Marcia was a woman of immense heart, known for her generosity and love for her family. She cherished her role as a mother to her son, Carey Michael Hovis, and his wife Heather, and as a grandmother to her beloved grandsons, Trevor Kane Hovis and Carey Michael "Bug"  Hovis, Jr. Marcia's family was the center of her universe, and she found great joy in their accomplishments and happiness.

In addition to her immediate family, Marcia leaves behind her siblings: Kaye Withers Clemmons and her husband Bill, Lana Withers Jones and her husband Charlie, Earl Hoyle Withers, Jr., and Gary Len Withers and his wife Rhonda, along with a host of wonderful nieces and nephews. Each shared countless memories embraced by her loving nature and free spirit.

Marcia had a deep connection with animals, a passion for planting flowers, and an infatuation with Christmas and shopping for beautiful clothing. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching television and often found peace and comfort in the pages of her Bible, which reflected her unwavering faith and devotion to the Lord. She was also a member of Community Baptist Church.

Although Marcia's heart carried the weight of grief for her daughter, Sherri Jean Hovis, who predeceased her, she continued to embody a spirit of resilience and love. Her parents, Earl H. Withers, Sr., and Helen Rudisill Withers, and the love of her life, husband of 35 years, Mike Hovis, also preceded her in death. Marcia's legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched, reminding everyone of the importance of kindness, family, and faith.

A visitation will be held in her honor on Monday, September 8, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life from 2:00 PM  at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home, located at 2916 Union Road, Gastonia, NC 28054. Burial will follow at Long Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. 

Marcia Withers Hovis may have departed from this earthly realm, but the love she nurtured will continue to inspire and connect those she leaves behind. Her spirit will forever be cherished in the memories of her family and friends who will carry her legacy of love and generosity throughout their lives.
