Marie Funk Ledford, a beloved wife, sister, and friend, passed away on May 18, 2024, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC. Born on February 23, 1954, Marie led a life filled with love, kindness, and passion for those around her.
In her professional career, Marie dedicated many years to working in business communication, where she excelled with her skills and warm demeanor. Her commitment to excellence shone through in everything she did. Holding a Master's degree was a source of great pride for Marie, reflecting her dedication to continuous learning and personal growth.
Beyond the workplace, Marie's true joys lay in the simple pleasures of life. She found solace in the pages of books and the presence of her numerous pets, who were cherished members of her family. Community work was another avenue through which Marie shared her compassion with others. Her altruistic spirit touched the lives of many and left a lasting impact on those around her. Before retiring Marie had worked at JA Jones Construction and later Akima Government Services.
Marie was known for her vibrant personality and infectious laughter that could light up any room. Her circle of friends was vast and tightly knit, a testament to the love and care she invested in each relationship. She found immense happiness in spending quality time with family and friends, creating cherished memories that will forever be treasured.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Donald J. Funk and Faye Williams Funk, as well as her brother Michael Funk and a sister-in-law, Terry Ramsey. She leaves behind her loving husband of 20 years, Scott Ledford; stepchildren Alex Russell (Jayce) with their son Ezra and Dylan Ledford (Emily); brothers Stephen (Lisha) and Allan Funk (Lisa) and a sister-in-law, Sue Funk; sister-in-law, Deborah Mackey (Mike) and many nieces and nephews; and a multitude of wonderful friends.
As we mourn the loss of Marie Funk Ledford from our lives, let us also celebrate the joy she brought into this world. Her legacy of love, generosity, and unwavering kindness will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to have known her. May she rest in peace knowing that she was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of calling her family or friend.
