Martha Gordon Hills

Charlotte - Martha G. Hills, 83, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2023 in Gastonia surrounded by her family.

Born July 11, 1939, in Flomaton, Alabama, Marty was the daughter of the late Adala G. Brown and James Clifford “Cliff” Gordon. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her beloved husband Earle Knot Hills.

Marty was retired from Mecklenburg County where she worked in the tax office for 24 years. She and Earle were members of St. Luke's United Methodist Church on Shamrock Dr. in Charlotte. Together they spent many hours creating small wooden keepsakes. Earle would carve and Mom would meticulously paint each piece. Mom was also known for loving her furry "children" dearly. She was never without a small lap dog, for long, to keep her company and bring her smiles. She also loved her flower garden and the many birds it would bring. Most of all she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish their memories of Marty are her children Cliff Chapman (Kim) and Felicia Brown (Charles, dec.), her grandchildren Melissa Chapman and Kaitlyn Bobak (Pete), her great-grandchildren Jaylen Jones, Bella Chapman, Palmer Ann and Banks Bobak. Her beloved sisters Paula Ghorley and Penney Mitchell will also miss her deeply, along with her nieces Tammy Elliott and Rhonda Flowe.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday February 1, 2023 at Gethsemane Cemetery and Memorial Gardens 1504 W. Sugar Creek Road, Charlotte NC, 28262, with Elder Anita S. Harvin, M.Div., Gaston Hospice Chaplain, officiating.

The family greatly appreciates the staff and caregivers of Terrace Ridge Assisted Living in Gastonia for the love and support shown to Mom during her stay.
