Martha Paulette Faile Black, born on January 10, 1944, in Lancaster, South Carolina, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 6, 2025, at the Stanley Total Living Center, surrounded by her devoted family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her.
Paulette’s life was a testament to the importance of family, and her proudest accomplishments were her wonderful children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving children: Pastor Steve Black and his wife Linda, Leah Messer and her husband Larry, and Regina Pressley and her husband Joe. In their hearts and cherished memories, she lives on through her beloved grandchildren: Lauren Fraley (Jacob), Taylor Honeyman (Ethan), Amber McAlister (Marvin), Stephanie Bennett (David), Jamie Pressley (Junior), Chris and Nick Majors. Her legacy of love continues through her great grandchildren: Joseph, Gina, Chloe, Daniel, Skyler, Adam, and her soon-to-arrive great grandchild, Sunny Martha, as well as her great great grandchildren, Livvy, Emmy, Mattie, and one on the way.
Paulette will be fondly remembered for her loving care and the joy she found in spending time with her family. She had a penchant for watching western television shows, often gathering her loved ones around to share in the laughter and excitement. Beyond the comfort of family gatherings, Paulette found solace and joy in her hobbies, which included reading books, solving crossword puzzles, crocheting with skill and creativity, and cooking delicious meals that brought everyone together.
A proud member of Maranatha Baptist Church, Paulette held her church family dear to her heart, finding strength in the bonds formed within her community. As a woman of faith, she embodied love and compassion, exuding warmth that made everyone feel welcome.
Though we mourn her passing, we celebrate the indelible mark she left on her family and friends. She is preceded in death by the father of her children, James Black, her beloved parents, Paul Franklin Faile and Lucy Mae Phillips Faile, and her siblings. Her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all she touched throughout her vibrant life.
As we remember Paulette, let us carry forward her legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten, held closely in our hearts as we share stories and memories of the beautiful life she led.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 2:45 p.m., Saturday, May 10, 2025 at City Church, 3100 City Church Street, Gastonia, NC. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Dickie Spargo and Pastor Steve Black officiating.
