Mary Lou Walker Mullins, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026, at Carolina Caring in Sherrill Ford. Born on December 11, 1940, in Murphy, Cherokee County, North Carolina, Mary Lou lived a life filled with love, dedication, and cherished memories.
Throughout her life, Mary Lou found joy and purpose in her family. She was a loving and steadfast presence, proudest of her children, who were the center of her world. Her warm heart extended to her husband of 27 years, Gregory Mullins, and to her children: Debra Ann Smith (Danny), James Alan Gibson (Donna), Claude William Gibson (Lisa), Mary Angelia Killian (Rick), and Lucinda Weller (William). She also embraced her step-children Joseph Mullins, Shenna Mullins, and Jody Lott with kindness and affection. Her legacy continues through her 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Mary Lou’s personality was marked by her love of traveling and her passion for reading and gospel music. She delighted in the simple pleasures of life and treasured spending quality time with her family, creating lasting memories that will be dearly held. As a mother and homemaker, she nurtured her home with unwavering care and grace, qualities that endeared her to all who knew her.
Her life was also a tapestry woven with deep familial connections. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Gibson, her parents, Napolian and Nora Bell Cheatman Walker, and her siblings: Harvey Walker, Arnold Walker, Bill Walker, Steve Walker, Henry Walker, Jerry Walker, Martha, Maxine, Norma, and Blanche. and a step-son, Chris Mullins.Their memories live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
Mary Lou's final moments were surrounded by the comforting presence of her loving family, a testament to the close bonds she cultivated throughout her life. The honor of serving as her pallbearers will be carried out by her grandsons, a role that reflects the deep mutual respect and affection between them.
