Gastonia – Matthew Walter "Matt" Crowley, Sr., 79 passed away peacefully on December 8, 2021, at the Robin Johnson House with his loving family by his side.
Matt was born December 6, 1942, in Youngtown, Ohio. He was the son of the late William Crowley and Wanda Rodney Crowley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin baby brother, Eugene Crowley.
Matt was a veteran of the United States Army where he proudly served his country. He was a wonderful loving man who was adored and respected by many. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Frankie Coker Crowley; his sons, Matthew "Matt" Crowley, Jr., (Kim); Eugene "Gene" Crowley and wife Dayna; grandchildren, Brent (Bekah) Crowley; Miranda Crowley and Jacob Crowley and their mother, Missy Crowley; great-granddaughter, Lydia Crowley;
brothers, William "Bill" Crowley (Andrea); Arnold Johnson (Suzanne); and Jim Johnson (Carol); sister, Shirley Safarek; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Saturday, December 18th at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 18th in the Chapel with Military Honors provided by the United States Army and the Gaston County Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be made to: Gaston Hospice, c/o Robin Johnson House, P.O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054.
