Maurice Lee Mathis

Maurice Lee Mathis, Sr., 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 17 2022 at Courtland Terrace with his loving family by his side. He was born in Inman, South Carolina on April 10, 1938 and is the son of the late Herbert Lee and Evelyn Frye Mathis and was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Ted Stubbs and nephew, Greg Johnson.
Maurice attended Lowell High School, where he played football. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He was a member of Lowell Baptist Church and retired from Pilot Freight. He enjoyed watching football and as a young man, riding Trail Bikes and was an avid NASCAR fan.
Maurice is survived by his former wife, Carolyn Barker Mathis; two sons, Maurice Lee Mathis, Jr. and wife Amy, Jeffrey Scott Mathis, Sr. and wife Sheryl; one daughter, Cheree' Nicole Stokes and husband Bobby; 3 grandchildren whom he adored, Cameron Mathis, Jeffrey Scott Mathis, Jr., Christopher Mathis; 3 sisters, Dolores Arrowood and husband Jack, Meurice Smith and husband Robert, Bobbie Stubbs and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be private and at a later date.
