MAXINE JANE HINES
November 8, 1951 - January 12, 2021
Maxine Jane Hines, 69, of Chicago, IL; Logan, WV; and Charlotte, NC (she was a rolling stone), passed away in peace on January 12, 2021, in Gastonia, NC. Maxine was born in Chicago, IL, and was a Class of '69 graduate of Argo Community High School in Summit, IL.
As a single mother to Kimberly, 39, Maxine loved and adored her daughter fiercely and shared her pride in her daughter to anyone who would listen. Kimberly was her whole world and there could be no closer bond between mother and daughter. Maxine taught her daughter everything she needed to know about the world, everything she needed not only to survive, but to thrive.
Maxine was a giver, a caretaker, a generous soul who would give the last of what she had to someone in need. She was a one-of-a-kind woman who made an impression on the lives of countless individuals. She was smart, sharp, hilarious, fun and real.
Maxine proudly dedicated her career to the United States Postal Service. She started her 35-year career in downtown Chicago and ended it in Accoville, WV. She was a beloved Postmaster and member of the community. During her career, she inspired many people around her.
She is survived by her daughter, as well as by nieces and nephews, René Callis (IL), John Hines (AZ), Michael Hines (WV), Wesley Hines (AZ), Lindsey Hines (AZ), and Allison Mech (NC). She is preceded in death by her beloved nephew Tommy Hines, her beloved niece Michelle Morgucz Swindle, and by her four brothers, Ed, Don, Tom and George.
Her daughter would like to thank the staff at Stanley Total Living Center in Stanley, NC, for the care and attention given to Maxine in her last years of life. She had true friends and companions there. You know who you are.
Maxine will be interred at Clarendon Hills Cemetery in Darien, IL, by request near her baby brother George, with a private graveside memorial.
In lieu of flowers, please direct donations in memory of Maxine to Housing Opportunities for Women in Chicago, IL. www.how-inc.org. If you are unable to donate, her daughter asks that you instead do one of the following: Spread love and joy through acts of kindness while thinking of Maxine; or pop open a Corona, turn on The Beatles and toast to Maxine. Gone but never, ever forgotten. Loved and missed by many.
