Melissa Elaine Hilliard, 53, passed away on April 13, 2022 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Gaston County on November 7, 1969 to Clara Faye and Johnny Wood.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Melinda Bynum, and her aunt who was like a mother to her, Barbara Hill.
Melissa worked as a CNA and was always a caring and loving woman to all of those around her. She enjoyed spending time at home planting flowers in her garden, shopping, playing crossword puzzles, and vacationing at the beach. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren making many wonderful happy memories with them.
Left to cherish her memories include her devoted partner of 13 years, Randy Jenkins; father, Johnny Wood and step-mother, Faye Wood; mother, Clara Faye; sons, Steven Whitley (Carrie), Ray Head; daughters, Tasha Ray-Hill (Chris), Marissa Campbell; sister, Angie Wood; and her beloved grandchildren, Skyler, Carson, Greyson, Hannah, Ben, Aubrey, and Nathaniel.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday April 20, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home. There will be a Celebration of Life service to follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Withers and Whisenant Chapel with Reverend Richard Martinez officiating. Burial will be at Armstrong Cemetery.
