Emblem

Michael Richard Emory, a beloved family man and a dedicated member of the community, passed away on September 4, 2023, at his residence. Michael was born on March 25, 1972, in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. He was the son of Cynthia Edwards Emory and the late Ted Wayne Emory.

Growing up, Michael graduated from West Mecklenburg High School and Gaston College, where he pursued his education. After completing high school, he embarked on an extraordinary journey of service to the nation. Michael's commitment and love for his country led him to join the U.S. Navy, where he served for an impressive 25 years before retiring. His time in the Navy was marked by dedication and sacrifice as he selflessly gave his best to protect and serve his fellow citizens. Following serving in the U.S. Navy he went back to Gaston College to receive his degree.
Despite his numerous accomplishments in the Navy, Michael's proudest achievements were always his children: Shane, Mark, and Jodi. Their happiness and success were the driving forces in his life. Additionally, he had the pleasure of being a cherished grandfather to his grandchildren, Marina, and Ramsey.

Michael had a warm and compassionate personality that endeared him to all who knew him. He had a heart for helping others and derived great joy from lending a helping hand whenever needed. Whether it was assisting a neighbor with their yard work or offering support during challenging times, Michael's willingness to make a difference made him an invaluable presence in the lives of those around him.
Outside of work and lending a helping hand, Michael found solace in nature. He loved spending time outdoors and working in his yard. The serenity of nature brought him peace and rejuvenation—his sacred place where he could recharge from the demands of daily life. He also enjoyed volunteering and working with the therapy horses at Sundance Farms in Rock Hill, SC.
Furthermore, automotive work was another passion that ignited Michael's spirit. He took delight in working on cars and relished every opportunity to fix engines or tinker with mechanical parts. It was a hobby that allowed him to exercise his skills and tap into his creative side.

In honor of Michael's life, a visitation will be held on September 8, 2023, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm, followed by a memorial service from 4:00 pm to 4:45 pm with Pastoir Steve Black officiating at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home and Cremation located at 2916 Union Road, Gastonia, NC 28054 with full Military Honors by the U.S. Navy and the Gaston County Honor Guard. Family, friends, and community members are all welcomed to come pay their respects and celebrate the beautiful life of this remarkable individual. Interment will be at Salisbury National Cemetery at a later date.
Michael's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those he held dear. He leaves behind his mother, Cindy Emory and Ron Johnson; his children, Shane Emory, Mark Emory and his wife Ariana, and Jodi Emory; he adored his beloved granddaughter Marina; as well as his beloved companion Marci Hollifield and her children Hailey and Hayden (Mike’s little sidekick he adored). He is also survived by step-daughters Jessica Howard and her husband Wacy, with their son Ramsey; Leigh Groth and her husband Andrew; uncle Bob Edwards and Shelia and Bob’s son Gregg and grandson, Tommy; his great aunt Ann Hall and husband Jerry  who is the glue in the family, along with many other cherished friends and family.
As we mourn the loss of Michael Richard Emory, let us remember him for the immense love he shared with his family, his unwavering dedication to serving others, and the joy he found in the simple pleasures of life. His impact on those around him will be forever cherished, and his legacy of kindness will continue to inspire us all. May he rest in eternal peace.
