Michael "Mike" Ray Hovis

On the 7th of May, 2024, the world bid farewell to a beloved soul, Michael "Mike" Ray Hovis. Known for his role as co-owner and operator of A1 Auto Paint and Body Shop, Mike's passion for cars and racing was evident to all who knew him. He took pride in his work and formed deep bonds with his best friends Larry LaCount and David Ford, who passed away a few years ago.

Born on December 7, 1951, in Gaston County, North Carolina, Mike's love for engines and speed was matched only by his love for family and friends. He attended Hunter Huss High School, and he was a fixture in the community, touching the lives of many with his warm personality.

Mike's memory will forever be cherished by those who knew him. He found joy in playing baseball, riding motorcycles, dirt track racing, and singing Karaoke. His laughter will echo through the hearts of all who shared precious moments with him.

Mike leaves behind a legacy that shines brightly through those he held dear. He is now reunited with his parents Jack L Hovis II and Helen Ray Hovis; daughter Sherri Hovis; brother Jack L Hovis III; sisters Kaye and Ramona.

In the hearts of the living remains Mike's devoted wife of  20 years, Tara Patton Hovis; sons Carey Hovis (Heather), Carey's boys Trevor and Carey Jr.; Cameron Mathis and daughter Myla Mathis; only sister,  Pat Davis (Earl); several nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law Sandra Wadsworth; brothers-in-law Brandon and Cameron Patton, and his beloved fur babies, Jasper, Jaxon and Ruby.

Mike's proudest accomplishments included excelling in dirt track racing, tinkering with cars, watching races fervently, and embracing the wonders of travel during vacations. His spirit will continue to live through the memories shared among family and friends within the vibrant tapestry he created during his time on Earth.

As we mourn our loss while cherishing our treasured memories, may we find solace in knowing that Mike's spirit will forever live on in our hearts.

Rest in peace, Mike - your race is over but your legacy endures eternally.
