Michael Landon Sumner

Michael Landon Sumner, 59, passed away at his home on Friday, July 29, 2022.  He was born in Gastonia on November 15, 1962 and is the son of the late William Howard Sumner and Elsie Faye Porter Sumner.

 

Michael was a graduate of Hunter Huss High School and was a veteran of the United States Navy.  He attended City Church and he enjoyed to fish for carp.  Michael was employed at Freightliner and is a proud member of UAW Local 5286.

 

Michael is survived by his son, Chris Sumner and wife Melanie; two sisters, Gloria French and husband Jimmy, Barbara Carr (whom he lived with); 4 grandchildren, Abel, Bailey, Caylee, Gracelyn Sumner.

 

The family will receive family and friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life Service to follow in the Chapel of Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Black officiating.

 

Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park with Military Honors to be presented by the United States Navy and Gaston County Honor Guard.

 

Michael was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jimmie Sumner; sister, Dorothy Sumner Parker.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Heart Society of Gaston County, P. O. Box 446, Gastonia, NC 28053 or City Church, 3100 City Church St., Gastonia, NC 28056.
