Norma McNinch Coleman

Gastonia – Norma McNinch Coleman,  passed away on Wednesday October 5, 2022 at the age of 92. Norma was born on July 10, 1930 in Schertz, TX. The daughter of the late Ludwig and Hilda Rabe Schmidt(McNinch).

She was also preceded in death by a son, David Benson Coleman.

Norma left Texas at an early age for Hartsville, SC where she graduated from Hartsville High School in 1949. She moved to Columbia, SC for employment with the State Veterinarian as a Lab technician, and it was there she met and married her husband Dock N. Coleman. They were together 69 years.

Norma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She had an outgoing personality and never met a stranger. She was a Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, talented in art and sewing.  For several years, she was the owner of The Gilded Lily Shop in Charlotte, NC. Norma served as a volunteer with the Centralina Ombudsman Program on aging and was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church, Gastonia.

Mrs. Coleman is survived by her husband of 69 years,  Dock N. Coleman, daughters Susan Winham(Pete), Jeannie Davis(Kenny), Sally Baxter(Newt), eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
