Norma Jean Cobb Atchley

Norma Jean Cobb Atchley, 77, of Dallas, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2024, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center with her loving family by her side.  

She was born Gaston County on March 29, 1947 to the late William and Zetta Cobb. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Alice Moss and Diane Sheppard; and her brother, Von Cobb. 

Norma was a lifelong member, over 60 years, of First Freewill Baptist Church (Legacy Church), where she met her husband, Glenn. When asked what was the secret to a long and happy marriage she would say “put the Lord first”. Her dream was to retire when her first grandchild was born and that’s exactly what she did. The light of her life were her grandchildren. She loved her family more than anything else. Norma was also known to be a “professional shopper” and enjoyed shopping with her best friend, Donna. She leaves many happy memories to be cherished by all who knew and loved her. 

She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Glenn Atchley; daughters, Apryl Smith (Thomas) and Melissa White (Jason); her grandchildren, Allyson Smith, Caroline Smith, and Zetta White; and her cousins and best friends, Donna & Mike Nichols. 

The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday May 10, 2024 at Legacy Church, 2316 Union Road, Gastonia, NC. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Darin Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
