Rachel Horton Lewis

Rachel Horton Lewis, beloved wife, mother, granna, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her residence in Dallas, North Carolina on January 12, 2024. She was born on May 22, 1942, in Gaston County, North Carolina to the late Mark David Horton and Edna Jenkins Horton. In addition to losing her beloved husband Bob before her passing, Rachel was predeceased by her siblings, Helen Farmer, Mildred Conard, Sarah Conroy, Arthur, Dean, and Robert Horton. Although their physical presence is no longer with us, the love and memories they shared will forever be cherished in Rachel's heart.

Rachel's life was filled with love and dedication to her family and her community. She graduated from Belmont High School and went on to pursue a career as the owner and operator of Rachel's Beauty Shop for nearly 40 years. Her cosmetology skills were renowned, and she touched the lives of countless clients who left her salon feeling beautiful both inside and out.

Aside from her successful career as a hairstylist, Rachel possessed many other talents. Growing up playing the piano at Sunset Baptist Church instilled in her a deep love for music that remained with her throughout her life. Her gentle melodies brought joy to all those who had the privilege of listening.

Rachel will also be remembered for her culinary prowess. She was an amazing cook who delighted in preparing delicious meals for her family. Her cakes were legendary, and no one could resist her mouthwatering Dallas chili. The kitchen was truly Rachel's domain where she poured love into every dish she created.

When she wasn't busy in the kitchen or making people feel beautiful at her salon, Rachel enjoyed watching Gunsmoke and Law & Order. These shows provided moments of relaxation and entertainment that she cherished in her free time.

Rachel's true pride and joy came from being a devoted wife, mother, granna, sister, and friend. She adored her late husband of 56 years, Robert "Bob" Rhodes Lewis' and they shared a love that served as an example to all who knew them. Rachel cherished their memories together throughout their long and happy marriage.

Rachel leaves behind a legacy of love and strength that will continue to inspire all who knew her. She is survived by her children, Todd Lewis (Mary Burton) and Leigh Rudisill (Tim); grandchildren, Mary Hannah Lewis, Zoye Rudisill, Tanner Lewis, and Lawson Rudisill; sister Betty McCoig; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rachel's affectionate nature and unwavering support touched the lives of her family members deeply.
