Raymond "Bud" Lenier Whitson, 90, a man of great warmth and strength, passed away at his residence on March 16th, 2024. He was born on August 18th, 1933, in Gaston County, North Carolina to the late Harmon C. Whitson and Grace Bryant Whitson. In addition to his parents, he is also predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Ruth Elliott Whitson, his daughter-in-law, Sandra Green Whitson , brother Harmon C. Whitson, Jr, and a sister, Phyllis Ledford.
Bud led a fulfilling life, dedicating most of his years to working in machine shops until his well-deserved retirement from L&M Machine Shop. His skilled hands brought precision and excellence to his work throughout his career.
Apart from his professional endeavors, Bud had a passion for the outdoors. He was an exceptional surf fisherman and a skilled swimmer. His love for sports extended to enjoying baseball, football, and basketball games. Bud's enthusiasm for life and sports brightened many days and created lasting memories for those around him.
Having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, Bud displayed courage both in service to his country and in the boxing ring as part of the Army boxing team. Additionally, he shared laughter and entertainment with fellow troops as a member of the troop entertainment team.
In every facet of his life, Bud found joy in spending time with his family. He and his beloved wife of 60 years, Ruth Elliott Whitson, were active members of Union Presbyterian Church where their faith guided them. Their bond was unbreakable, built on love and devotion that will forever be cherished.
Bud's legacy lives on through his surviving family: son Scott Whitson; daughter Joanie Farr and her husband Joe; his wonderful grandchildren Jake Farr (with wife Brittany), Emily Wingard (with husband Michael), and Andrew Whitson; as well as great-grandchildren Samuel, Jovie, and Whitson Farr. He is also survived by his devoted brother-in-law Ronnie Elliott and wife Rhonda along with sisters-in-law, Sara Elliott, and Carolyn Lingerfelt; not forgetting the many nieces and nephews who held a special place in Bud's heart.
