Raymond Michael Jarvis, 58, of Gastonia, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 28, 2023 at his residence with his beloved wife by his side.
He was born in East Chicago, Indiana on October 22, 1964 to the late Kenneth and Toshiko Jarvis.
Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, friend, mentor, and coach. After high school, he served in the United States Navy from 1982 to 1988 on the USS John Adams submarine. He attended Montreat College and had a career in banking. He served as secretary of the Gaston County Amatuer Radio Emergency Service and was a member of Gaston Radio Club. Ray always supported military service and was looking forward to volunteering with the Charlotte USO. He loved spending time with family, playing golf and tennis, and rooting for the Chicago Cubs.
Ray is survived by his wife of 35 years, Darlene Hoffman Jarvis; son, Zack Jarvis (Alayna); daughters, Allison Jarvis (Marina) and Rebecca Jarvis Lautner (Shawn); granddaughter, Eloise Jarvis; brothers, Bruce Jarvis (Karen) and Rick Jarvis (Jackie); sisters, Sheila Bland and Cheryl Walker; sisters-in-law, Renee Hinson (Walt) and Paula Medlin; brother-in-law, Rodney Hoffman (Darla); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Ray's life will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 3, 2023 at Southminster Church with Pastor Matt Agee officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. The church is located at 1401 Hoffman Road, Gastonia, North Carolina 28054.
