Richard Eugene Benoy, 92, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on October 5, 2026, at Terrabella in Lincolnton, North Carolina. He was born on March 13, 1934, in Gaston County, North Carolina, and lived a life marked by devotion to his family, steady work, faith, and service.

Richard will be remembered as a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. Among the things that brought him joy were blue grass music, old cowboy movies, and, above all, spending time with his son and his family. His proudest accomplishments were his son and grandchildren, and the love he held for them remained at the center of his life.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Taft Benoy; his mother, Minnie Propst Benoy; and his beloved wife of 72 years, Ruth Benoy, who passed away on July 16, 2026. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Rosetta Leatherman, and brother-in-law, Paul Leatherman; his sister, Mary Jane Bland, and brother-in-law, Jimmy Bland; and his brothers, David Edgar Benoy and William Taft Benoy Jr.
He is survived by his son, Randy Benoy, and daughter-in-law, Janet Benoy. He also leaves behind grandchildren Melinda and Ryan Hager, and Donna and Wesley Edison. Cherishing his memory as well are his great-grandchildren, Wyatt Hager, Hadley Hager, Lydia Hager, Elaina Edison, and Anders Edison; his sister-in-law, Peggy Benoy, numerous nieces and nephew. The love of this family was a lasting blessing in Richard’s life, and his memory will continue to live on through each of them.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Church Street, Dallas, North Carolina 28034 with military honors by the U.S. Air Force and the Gaston County Honor Guard.
