Richard Glenn Moten, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away suddenly on August 17, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on November 14, 1944, Richard’s life was deeply rooted in devotion to family and his community, and his loss will be profoundly felt by all who knew him.
Richard is lovingly remembered by his children: Greg Moten, and his son, Chase Moten, and Kim LaFreniere (Mike) and their children, Alex, Andi and Joe. He was a proud grandfather to Chase, Alex, Andi, and Joe, who brought him great joy and whom he cherished dearly. Richard also leaves behind his brother, Eddie Moton (Pam), whose bond with Richard was marked by mutual respect and enduring companionship.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Moten, his mother, Mildred Hudspeth Moten, his son Brent Scott Moten, his brother Sam Moten, and his sister Brenda Farrar. Their memories remained a cherished part of Richard’s life, and he often spoke of them with warmth and affection.
Richard retired from Freighliner with almost 30 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed working there, and especially his all his co-workers and friends.
For those wishing to pay respects and remember Richard’s remarkable life, a visitation will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home and Cremation, 2916 Union Road, Gastonia, NC 28054. Burial services will be Private on Monday. August 24, 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Gaston Memorial Park, 1200 South New Hope Road, Gastonia, NC 28054. Pallbearers will be Joe Bailey, Chase Moten, Robbie Simpson, Joe LaFreniere, Michael LaFreniere, Gary Hoffman.
Throughout his years, Richard’s kind nature, steadfastness, and quiet strength enriched the lives of all who knew him. His commitment to those he loved was unwavering, and his guidance and wisdom will continue to inspire. The legacy Richard leaves behind is one of love, compassion, and integrity. Although he is no longer with us, his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have shared in his journey.
He will be dearly missed, fondly remembered, and forever treasured.
