Robert "Bob" Walter Thomas, Sr.

Robert "Bob" Walter Thomas, Sr., a dedicated man who touched the lives of many, passed away at his residence on May 14, 2024. He was born on November 25, 1934, in Dallas, North Carolina to the late Robert Scott Thomas and Mae Johnson Thomas.
 
 Bob led an accomplished life, starting with his service in the U. S. Navy for 12 years and further contributing through various roles post-retirement. He served the community by working for the U.S. Postal Service, ensuring security at Covenant Village, driving a school bus, teaching at Gaston College, and co-founding the Gaston County Honor Guard.
The thing he was most proud of  was his time spent working on the NASA Moon Project for three years with the Department of Defense
 
 
 Known for his caring and dedicated nature, Bob will always be remembered as a wonderful father to his 8 children and a great husband to his two wives.
 
 He is survived by his children: Robert Thomas Jr. (Wendy), Frankie Thomas Carver, Dawn Thomas Cloer, Brian Lee Thomas, Robin Thomas Ilges (Steven), Tammy Scruggs, Renee Martin (Bobby), Pam Maldenado (Max); seventeen grandchildren; and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
 
 Bob rejoins his parents Robert Scott Thomas and Mae Johnson Thomas in eternal rest. He is also preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Masie Fortenberry Thomas; second wife Jeanette Bunton Thomas; brothers Ray and Franklin Thomas; and sister Ruth Fortenberry.
 
 A visitation will be held at Assembly of Faith Church in Dallas on May 25th from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM followed by a Celebration of Life from 12:30 PM  with Reverend Richard Pete Miller and Reverend Brian Shaw officiating. The interment will take place at Gaston Memorial Park. Mausoleum, Gastonia  with full military honors by the Gaston County Honor Guard
 
 Robert "Bob" Walter Thomas, Sr., leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service that will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace
