Robert Lloyd Lutz, 95, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, at Carolina Care, with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Gaston County on May 7, 1931 to the late Lloyd and Bessie Lutz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Sam Lutz, Lib Summey, Jean Smith, and Roseanne Boggs.

Robert proudly served for 21 years as an US Army Veteran and served in Vietnam. While serving in the Army he became an avid bowler. He worked for the US Postal Service for 28 years and had 50 years of civil service. Robert was a devout member of St. Michael Catholic Church, in Gastonia, for 56 years. He was a very big Carolina Tarheel fan, and also supported the Washington Redskins and the New York Yankees. Most of all he loved his family more than anything in the world. He leaves many happy memories to be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Ursula Lutz; children, Georg Kosatschenko (Cathy), Udo Kosatschenko (Sarah), Bobby Lutz (Tammy), Jimmy Lutz (Ann), Marylou Messer (Tommy); 7 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather for visitation from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm on Thursday May 21, 2026 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 708 St Michael Lane, Gastonia, North Carolina. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 pm. Burial will be at Gaston Memorial Park in the Garden of Hope.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Kosatschenko, Will Rust, Adam Bratton, Drew Eaker, Zachary Lutz, and Garrett Lutz.
