Dallas – Robert “Goose” Glenn McGinnis, 83, passed away August 19, 2022, at his residence with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Gaston County on October 19, 1938 to the late Robert Benjamin McGinnis and Alice Heffner McGinnis.
Glenn was a veteran of the US Navy and was a truck driver for many years prior to partnering with Thomas Petroleum. He owned Dixie Vim for many years and two more different convenience stores. Goose as many people knew him by, was a prankster, he always enjoyed being around people and making them laugh. Goose also enjoyed fishing, old cars, hotrods, and traveling to Atlantic City to play poker. Goose was a good ole “fun man”. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandson Finn.
Left to cherish Gooses memory is companion of many years, Lynn Tate Yates; his grandchildren, Josh Alexander and wife Heather, and Cameron Russell; great grandchildren, Finn Alexander and Easton Russell; and a special aunt, Jerri Howie and uncle Carl of Garden City, SC.
A time for visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday August 24, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in the Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home Chapel With Pastor Dale Lawing officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain, North Carolina with military honors by the U.S. Navy and the Gaston County Honor Guard.
