Roxie Slate Turner

Gastonia - Roxie Irene Slate Turner, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 27, 2022 at her home with her loving family by her side.  She was born in Westfield, North Carolina on January 12, 1933 and is the daughter of the late Roy McKinley Slate and Laudie Rogers Slate.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jeff Lester Turner, Jr..

Roxie was the Cosmetic Sales Manager for Eckard Drug Store for many years.  She is a pillar of Walnut Grove Baptist Church.

Roxie is survived by her 3 loving daughters, Roxanne York and husband Robert, Valerie Beam and husband William, Amy Reeves and husband Tommy; 3 loving sons, Vega Ron Turner, Neil Armstrong Turner, Jeff Lester Turner III; 12 grandchildren whom she adored, Melissa Turner, Lisa Marie and Vincent Jackson, Lauren Hoover, Christa and Jason Short, Duke and Kennedy Beam, Kimberly Beam, Keith and Jennifer Reeves, Lawrence and Lauren Reeves, Charlotte Turner, Nina Turner and Dawn Turner; 14 great grandchildren also deeply adored by their grandmother, Roxie, Christian Short, Evelyn Short, Trinity Short, Lexi Hoover, Aurora Hoover, Gabriel Hoover, Ryan Beam, Adeline Beam, Thomas Reeves, James Reeves, Graeme Reeves, Scarlett Reeves, Turner Reeves, and Annsley Reeves. 

The family will receive family and friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Walnut Grove Baptist Church, 3255 Dallas-Cherryville Highway, Dallas, NC.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Walnut Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Parker and Pastor Lawrence Reeves officiating.

Entombment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park in Mausoleum B with the Releasing of the Doves.

Pallbearers will be Robert York, Duke Beam, Bill Beam, Keith Reeves, Tommy Reeves, Brett Keeter. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ryan Beam and  Thomas Reeves.

Roxie was preceded in death by her parents, Roy McKinley Slate and Laudie Rogers Slate; her husband of 58 years, Jeff Lester Turner, Jr.; one brother and four sisters.
