Roy Samuel Hammett
1940 - 2021
Kings Mountain – Roy Samuel Hammett – 80, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 2, 2021 at Atrium Health-Main.
He was born in Spartanburg County, South Carolina on August 28, 1940 to the late J.D. Hammett and Viola Fowler Hammett.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Linda Garris Hammett; and sister, Geraldine Hammett.
Roy was a very proud US Army Veteran serving as a Sharpshooter. He was a member of Bessemer City Church of God. Roy worked as an EMT for Cleveland County for over 30 years. During that time he served as the Medical Trainer for Kings Mountain's football team for over 10 years. Roy was always there for his family. He was a very kind soul and always had a joke to share with you; he never met a stranger. Roy was a loving father, grandfather and friend to many who will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his sons, Roy Shane Hammett (Lynda) and Craig Hammett (Ginger); grandchildren, Jordan, Natalie, Carly, Zachary, Brittaney and great grandson, Noah Stevens; his dear girlfriend, Jackie Hardin; cousin, Ann Harmon and his beloved fur baby, Princess.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 7th at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home Chapel, 2916 Union Road, Gastonia, NC with Pastor Dale Lawing officiating with Military Honors by the Gaston County Honor Guard.
Inurnment will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 13th at Parker Cemetery, 2310 Hoey Church Road, Shelby, NC.
