With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Ruth Murphy Benoy, who departed this life on July 16, 2026, at Robin Johnson House in Dallas, NC, lovingly surrounded by her family. Born on May 9, 1934, Ruth’s 92 years on earth were a shining testament to devotion, kindness, and quiet strength.
Ruth’s journey was rooted deeply in family. She was a beloved daughter to the late Claude V. Murphy and Dorcus Ingle Murphy, and the loving sister to Carl Lee Murphy, Rev. Dewey Murphy , John Murphy , Hughes Murphy, Rev. Fred Murphy , Albert Murphy , Jack Murphy , and Tommy Murphy , all of whom preceded her in rest. The bonds Ruth shared with her siblings and parents shaped a foundation of warmth and resilience that she passed down through the generations.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 72 years, Richard E. Benoy, who stood by her side through life’s many joys and challenges. Together, they built a legacy of love and unwavering commitment that endures in their family’s every heartbeat. Ruth’s son, Randy Benoy, and his wife Janet, hold close the treasured memories and values she instilled, carrying her legacy forward.
Her affection and influence radiated throughout her family. She leaves behind granddaughters Melinda Hager (with her spouse Ryan) and Donna Edison (with her spouse Wesley), who remember their grandmother for her gentle encouragement, wisdom, and laughter. Ruth’s greatest joy may well have been the time spent with her great-grandchildren: Anders Edison, Elaina Edison, Wyatt Hager, Lydia Ruth Hager, and Hadley Hager. To them, she was not only a matriarch but a storyteller, a safe haven, and an endless source of pride and comfort.
The ache of Ruth’s absence will be felt deeply by those who loved her, yet her memory endures in the lives she shaped and the kindness she spread so freely. Each story shared at her side, every kindness extended in her name, is a tribute to a life beautifully lived.
Family and friends are invited to honor Ruth’s life and legacy at a graveside service on Monday, July 20, 2026, at 10:30 AM, to be held at First Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 201 South College Street, Dallas, NC 28034 with Reverend Vickie Burgess and Pastor Kyle Phillips. Together, we will celebrate the grace, warmth, and enduring love that marked Ruth's extraordinary journey through this world.
While Ruth may have left our sight, her light will remain, ever bright, in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known and loved her.
