Gastonia – Scott Joseph Abernathy, 66, passed away on January 14, 2021 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Germany on June 7, 1954 to Phyllis Stone Abernathy and the late Joe Graham Abernathy. In addition to his father he is also preceded in death by a sister Sharon Abernathy.


Scott was a member of Parkwood Baptist Church. He was an avid outdoors man. He loved his Jeep and enjoyed riding and working on it.

Left to cherish his memories is his loving wife of 22 years, Lisa Hovis Abernathy;
his mother Phyllis Stone Abernathy; his son Galean Abernathy and his wife Andrea;
step children Anna Maxwell and Steve, and Wesley Maxwell; grandchildren, Hayley, Mason, Bella, Rilee and Tyler; mother-in-law, Dorothy Hovis; and his beloved fur baby Jake

Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 17th at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 3717 Hickory Grove Road, Gastonia, NC with Pastor David Belle Isle with the releasing of the doves
Pallbearers will be Tyler Flowers, Mark Hovis, Jon Mark Hovis, Roger Abernathy, Tommy Abernathy and Mark Abernathy

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, face mask and social distancing will be required; if you feel the need to stay home, a card or phone call to the family will be appreciated.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Parkwood Baptist Church, The International Missions Offering, 1827 Dixon Road, Gastonia, NC 28054
