Stephen Eugene Nation

Stephen “Steve” Eugene Nation passed away on August 7, 2026, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Norfolk, VA, on December 17, 1958, Steve lived a life marked by kindness, dedication, and integrity. His presence enriched the lives of all who knew him, and his memory will be cherished and honored for years to come.

Steve was the beloved son of Howard Eugene Nation and Amelia Castle Nation, both of whom preceded him in death. The legacy of love and values he received from his parents remained a constant guide, shaping his approach to life and all those he held dear.

Throughout his life, Steve’s compassion and quiet strength touched everyone he met. Whether with family, friends, or members of his community, Steve’s warmth and generosity were unmistakable. He was known not only for his thoughtful words but, more importantly, for his considerate actions.

Steve’s last moments were spent in the company of his family, providing comfort and support just as he had offered them throughout his life. The depth of their bond was a testament to the loving relationships he cultivated and treasured. Steve loved his family, his pets, traveling, sports, music, math, science, and his work at the City of Charlotte Utilities Water Treatment. He also loved helping others and supported Dallas High Shoals Christian Social Ministry. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and enjoyed working with the men of the church.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Nancy Rhyne Nation, his children, Adam Cloninger (Lea), Rosy Harmon (Sakeem), Kathy Moore (Jodie); grandchildren, Mason Cloninger, Bryson Cloninger and Kyrie Harmon; sister, Jeanne Marie Nation; uncle, Roy Castle and Shirley; brothers and sisters in law, Rev. George and Vicki Rhyne, Joe and Lynn Rhyne, Susan and Curt Moore, several nieces and nephews, and many wonderful friends.

A visitation to honor Steve’s life will be held at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, located at 531 Hardin Rd, Dallas, NC 28034, on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 5:45 PM. A Memorial service celebrating his life and legacy will follow at the same location, beginning at 6:00 PM with Dr. John Spencer and Rev. George Rhyne officiating. Private burial will be at a later date in the church cemetery.

Steve’s journey leaves behind a legacy defined by respect, kindness, and deep familial love. Those who were fortunate enough to know him will remember him fondly and miss him deeply. His memory will remain a comforting presence in the lives of those who loved him, a shining example of the strength of character and gentleness of heart.
