Sue Costner Mobley, a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on September 17, 2025, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. Born on July 29, 1943, in Gaston County, NC, she was a lifelong resident of the area and touched the lives of many with her warm spirit and love.
Sue will be remembered for her deep devotion to family. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who took pride in spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her legacy is carried on by her children: Tami Taylor (Reid), Lisa Brackett (Eric), Tim Mobley (Donna), and Dana Short (Glen). Sue's grandchildren, Jeremy Mobley, Beth Mobley, Kali Mobley (Paul), Katie Beasley (James), Michael Taylor, Maggie Bradshaw (John), Benjamin Kahler (Brittany), and Jordan Day Short will cherish the memories they created with her. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Addison Beasley, Beau Kahler, Brynn Kahler, Harper Beasley, Kate Bradshaw
In addition to her immediate family, Sue is survived by her dear sisters, Billie Whiten and Myrtle England, who shared in her life and laughter.
Sue was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Jesse and Jessie Millsaps Costner, her husband of 43 years, Reverend Jerry Mobley, She also mourned the loss of her son, Chuck Mobley, along with her sisters Judy Clark and Betty McCurry.
She embodied a profound sense of community and faith. Her strong, nurturing personality left an indelible mark on those who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to honor Sue's life at her visitation, which will take place on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home and Cremation, located at 2916 Union Road, Gastonia, NC. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life will be held from 1:30 PM at the same location. Sue will then be laid to rest in a burial ceremony starting at 2:45 PM at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 2858 N North Carolina Hwy 150, Lincolnton, NC.
Sue's loving spirit and dedication to family will forever be cherished, and her memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
