Susan Dawn Loyd

Susan Dawn Adams Loyd, age 69, of Clover, SC went to be with the Lord on September 22, 2026, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 5, 1956, in Lynchburg, Virginia; She grew up in Gretna, Virginia and moved to Vinton, VA, once married.

Susan lived a life rooted in faith, family, and devotion to others. She grew up in the Methodist Church, and after moving to South Carolina, she began attending Sunset Lane Baptist Church. Raised on a farm, she enjoyed riding horses and carried with her a love for simple, meaningful pleasures throughout her life.

Education and teaching were central to Susan’s life. She earned her Master’s in Elementary Education and taught for many years in Botetourt County Schools in Virginia before retiring. Her work reflected the care and steadiness that defined her, and she gave herself fully to the calling of helping children learn and grow.

Susan found joy in working in her flower garden and cooking. She loved the beach, and above all, she loved spending time with her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and Nana, and her proudest accomplishments were her son, Jonah, and her granddaughters, Hollie and Hadleigh. The love she poured into her family will remain one of her most enduring gifts. Everyone she met thought she was the gentlest, and loving soul.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Jeffrey Allen Loyd. She also leaves behind her son, Jonah Loyd, and Jonah’s wife, Kaitlyn, of Lake Wylie, SC along with her wonderful twin granddaughters, Hollie and Hadleigh Loyd.

Susan is also survived by her brother, Percy Smith “Smitty” Adams, Jr. and his wife, Dana; her sisters, Martha Abbott and her husband Jeff, and Laura Rowland, all of Gretna, VA ; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and friends who will remember her with love. She was preceded in death by her parents, Percy Smith Adams, Sr. and Nellie Creasy Adams, and by her nephew, Wayne Adams.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home and Cremation, 2916 Union Road, Gastonia, North Carolina 28054. A memorial service will follow there at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Dickey L. Hannah, Jr. officiating.

Susan will be remembered for her warm heart, her faithful spirit, and the deep love she gave so freely to those around her. Her memory will live on in the family she cherished and in the many lives she touched.
