SYLVIA JOYCE RENNICK
1934 - 2021

Sylvia Joyce Rennick - Born April 6, 1934, to Ollie Riddle and Hattie Pearl (Fagg) Riddle in Pemberton, West Virginia passed away peacefully October 6, 2021.

Sylvia grew up on a small farm while her father worked in a coal mine and her mother milked cows and sold churned butter. After she was finished with high school Sylvia joined her aunt in Havre de Grace, Maryland where she became employed by the Bell Telephone Company in 1951 as a telephone operator. She married Ira Hinkle and although that marriage didn't last the four children born to it did. She reared them mostly as a single mother. She spent a career with Bell Telephone and while the company changed titles she retired from Bell Atlantic in the early 1990's as the benefits clerk in the payroll office. The company was grateful for her service and gave her a grandfather clock when she retired.

Not long after retiring, she married Bob Rennick and they moved to North Carolina. Sylvia loved learning about her computer and became an avid if not a professional genealogist. She filled filing cabinets with information about her ancestors. She and Bob loved to travel and the two of them visited the 48 contiguous United States. She also traveled to Hawaii and took one trip to Europe. She treasured those memories of travel in her later years. Another treasured memory of hers was going three laps around Charlotte Motor Speedway at 160 mph in a Richard Petty racecar.

Surviving is her husband Bob of the home, daughter Diana (Ronald) Johnson of Bessemer City, daughter Donna of Dallas, and son Douglas (Tina) of Bel Air, Maryland. Grandchildren, Tracy, Jerry, Douglas, Jacob, Gregory, and Gina, great-grandchildren in Maryland, Michigan, and Texas, and many friends in her church and neighborhood.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ira, and son Gregory.

A memorial service will be held at David Baptist Church, Kings Mountain at a later date. Burial will be in the family plot at the Coal City, West Virginia cemetery.
