Listen to Obituary

Teresa Whitaker Hyde, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, at her residence, lovingly surrounded by her family. Born on November 1, 1950, Teresa lived a life marked by devotion and care for those she loved.

She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Gastonia, North Carolina, she spent a lot of time serving God in various roles in the church; Teresa deeply valued her church family and found great comfort and joy in her faith community. She was known for her loving nature and unwavering dedication to her family, qualities that endeared her to many.

Teresa’s proudest accomplishments were her daughters and grandchildren, who were the center of her life. She was a devoted wife to her beloved husband of 56 years, Mark Hyde. Together, they raised daughters Ashlee White (Bob) and Paige Hardin (James). Her legacy continues through her wonderful grandchildren: Jessica Hines (Kendel), Austin Hines (Melissa), Caleb Hines (Brooke), Addison White, David Hardin (Dana), Destiny Hardin, John Hardin, and Kenzie Hardin. Teresa also delighted in her role as great-grandmother to Lainey Rae Hines, Lawson Rhett Hines, and Everlee Kate Hines. She is greatly loved by her brothers Terry Whitaker (Sheila) and John Whitaker (Amy), as well as her sisters Diane Hooks (Jim) and Beth Anderson (Joe).

Teresa’s family looks back with gratitude for the warm moments they shared, especially the times they spent shopping together with family and friends—a simple joy that reflected her love of companionship and creating lasting memories. She loved family vacations they took every year, making floral arrangements and various crafts. Christmas was her favorite holiday.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd Herman Whitaker and Alene Eaker Hipps, and sister Deborah Firman, whose memories remain an integral part of her story.
