Dallas – Theo "Tootsie" Gaston Vernon, Sr. passed away March 16, 2022, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Gaston County on October 14, 1940, to Johnny Vernon and Lillie Mae Ruth. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Thelma Chapman, Shirley Hedgepath, and MaryJo Tutherow, and a brother, Earl Vernon.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He also retired from Burlington Industries. Tootsie enjoyed horseshoeing, bowling, and dancing. He also loved cutting up and telling jokes, but most of all he enjoyed eating at the Cracker Barrell and spending time with his family.
Left to cherish memories is his wife, Robin Fredell Vernon; his children, Theo, Jr. "Teddy" (Lori)Vernon, Rebecca Vernon, Melissa (Johnny) Nash, Amanda (Matthew) Childers, Bryant (Lisa) Moose; grandchildren, Chasity Vernon, Theo III "T.J." (Kayla) Vernon, Stephen (Courtney) Vernon, Brandon Morris, Winston Tindall, Austin Nash, Amy (Derek) Campbell, Dustin (Maegan) Moose; great-grandchildren, Gage Vernon, Jason Morris, Raelynn Vernon, Easton Tindall, Konnor and Khloe Campbell; brothers, Gilbert, John and Oliver Vernon.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 20, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Withers and Whisenant Chapel. Interment will follow at Long Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors. Pallbearers will be T.J. Vernon, Stephen Vernon, Brandon Morris, Austin Nash, Gage Vernon and Chasity Vernon.
