Theodore “Theo/Ted” Heilig, peacefully passed away on December 20, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 28, 1936, in Dallas, North Carolina to the late Lewis and Dessie Dennis Heilig He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 67 years, Marjorie “Kat” Kathleen Heilig; granddaughters, Scarlett Brea Heilig and Morgan Brooke Heilig; his siblings, Leroy and Lewis Heilig, Sarah Leaver.

Theo dedicated over 24 years of his life to the U.S. Air Force. Outside of work, Theo’s love for traveling was further exemplified by accompanying his wife, Kat during his 24 years of military service that took them around the world. Their shared experiences allowed them to create lasting memories together. They lived in England (3 yrs), Kansas (8 yrs), and North Dakota (12 yrs) and had a particular passion for exploring new places and experiencing different cultures. He was a farmer for most of his retirement age.

He attended Life Church and later attended McAdenville Wesleyan Church. Theo actively participated in the Senior Sunday School Class, and enjoyed taking senior trips with the church community. His faith was a cornerstone of his life and guided his actions both within the church and beyond. In his leisure time, Theo indulged in his hobby of farming and helping family and friends.

Among Theo’s proudest accomplishments were his children and grandchildren. He held a special place in his heart for each one of them and relished in watching them grow and succeed in their own endeavors.

Survivors include his son Keith and daughter-in-law Pamela Moore Heilig; daughter Donna and son-in-law Richard Williams; grandchildren Michelle Wallace, Jamie Norris (Elliott), Kirstie Heilig; great-grandchildren Asante Burris, Jeremiah Burris, Harley Heilig, Jocelynn Norris; as well as several nieces and nephews.

His family will be receiving friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 26th at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home in Gastonia. A Celebration of Life will be at 12 Noon on Saturday, December 27th at McAdenville Wesleyan Church, 300 Wesleyan Dr, McAdenville, NC 28101 with Reverend Josh Baker officiating. The interment will take place at Gaston Memorial Park, Masonic Section, 1200 S. New Hope Road, with full Military Honors. Reception to follow at the residence following the interment.

Theo will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering dedication to his loved ones, and zest for life that inspired all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace knowing he touched numerous lives with love and grace.
