Thomas Edward McCarthy

Thomas Edward McCarthy, Jr., 87, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026 at Robin Johnson Hospice House.

He was born on July 5, 1939 to the late Thomas McCarthy, Sr. and Elise Conner McCarthy. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Kay M. Tyrell and her husband, Johnny Tyrell.

Tom was a devoted member of Pisgah ARP Church where he was an Elder-Emeritus and Deacon of the church. He was a Past Master of King Solomon Lodge 704, currently Unity Lodge 462, and a 50-year veteran member. He was also a member of Oasis Shrine Temple of which he was a Past Divan Director. After selling his business he worked for the City of Gastonia as Chief Electrical Inspector. Tom also enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and spending time with his beloved family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Judith “Judy” Kenley McCarthy; children, Charles “Chuck” Edward McCarthy (Virginia) and Leigh McCarthy Daniels (Timothy); sister, Debra M. Johnson (Tommy); grandchildren, Charles Edward McCarthy, Jr., Brodie McCarthy, Carley Ann Daniels, and Conner D. Adams (Matt); great-grandchildren, Levi Thomas Dunn, William Timothy Adams, and Michael Christopher Adams; sister-in-law, Sandra Hale (Hank); and Brothers-in-law, Charles Kenley (Sandy), Jack Kenley (Jill), and Ellis Bolick; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 10, 2026, from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm at Pisgah ARP Church, 3600 Linwood Road, Gastonia, North Carolina 28052. A memorial service will follow at 2:30 in the church with Reverend Bobby Duran and Reverend Richard Lewis officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at Gaston Memorial Park, 1200 South New Hope Road, Gastonia, North Carolina 28054 , in the Masonic Section with full Masonic Rites.
