Wendel Nathan Petty, a beloved member of the community, passed away on November 1, 2023, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. He was born on March 16, 1951, in Tombs County, Georgia, to John L. Petty and Corene Morris Petty. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Gregory Petty as well as a special friend Anna Reeves.
Throughout his life, Wendel made a significant impact in the City of Gastonia and the City of Kings Mountain. He proudly served as an employee for both municipalities. Additionally, Wendel devoted himself to his passion for landscaping and worked diligently for Petty Landscaping.

Wendel was known for his warm and friendly nature. He possessed an innate ability to connect with people and leave a positive impression wherever he went. His love for his family was immeasurable, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

An active member of Upper Room Church in Belmont, Wendel nurtured his faith while actively contributing to the spiritual community around him.

Outside of work and church, Wendel found solace in his hobbies and interests. He had a profound love for gardening and felt most at peace when surrounded by nature's beauty. Wendel had a green thumb like no other; his meticulous care and attention turned his yard into a breathtaking masterpiece. He was a member of Travelers Protective Association of America for over 25 years.

Wendel's proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly his garden and landscaping. It served as a testament to his expertise and dedication in cultivating stunning flora. The beauty he created not only brought joy to him but also inspired everyone who had the pleasure of witnessing it.

Wendel is survived by his adoring sister Linda Payseur and her husband David; sister-in-law Bennie Petty; niece Erin Oeth and her husband Steven; nephews Eric Payseur and his wife Monika, Leander Petty and his wife Traci, Zane Petty and his wife Nicole; special cousins, Albert and Donna Petty, Chris Petty, Cecil and Reba Willis, Rock and Sue Mills, Mike and Pat Forbes, Lynn Mills.

To honor Wendel's memory, visitation services will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home and Cremation located at 2916 Union Road in Gastonia, NC. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow the visitation at 3:00 PM in the Chapel with Reverend Mike Brewer and Reverend Jan Deans officiating. Interment will follow at Hollywood Cemetery with the releasing of the doves.

Wendel's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him. However, his memory will forever remain alive through the legacy of kindness, love, and beautiful gardens that he leaves behind. He will be dearly missed by family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
