There was never a stronger, more devoted patriarch or better friend that so many affectionately knew as "WT" or "Wib" Queen. WT never met a stranger. Anyone who had the privilege of experiencing one of his famously firm hugs, handshakes or pats on the back can tell you he had a special way of making everyone feel appreciated and important.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy before graduating from Cramerton High School in 1947. There he played and would go on to coach football. It was there where he also met his future wife, Maxine Mobley. Years later, motivated by lifelong friendships made at Cramerton High, WT organized the "Cramerton Bunch". The Cramerton Bunch met monthly to fellowship, laugh, and reminisce. He later became an integral member of the Cramerton Historical Society and the Town of Cramerton would always hold a special place in his heart.
After attending Belmont Abby College, WT spent the next 32 years working for Duke Power. Upon retirement, he owned and operated Queen's Seafood in Belmont and played golf every chance he got.
WT wholeheartedly loved his family; he loved his friends, and always looked for opportunities to help others. He prioritized his relationship with Christ above all. He sought to honor God and pursue his will in all aspects of his life. Subsequently, Wilburn Thomas Queen lived well. He was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church, Sunday School teacher, Senior Citizens Ministry coordinator.
